John Radcliff sent me this. On the back it has May 16, 1952 so I
assume we were in the 7th grade.
I can recognize John Radcliff next to the principal. Luther
Norman next to him. One of the Franklin sisters next to him and
then Kenneth McWaters. Front row, far right looks like James Weathered.
Not counting the teacher, 3rd row, 8th from the left looks
like Venita Crocker and Sarah Harnly next to her. I'm 64 years old,
give
me some help naming these kids. lnorman@phsclassof57.org
I'm nearly 65 so accept this as a fogged up guess. First row
seated, second from left is Cecil Watson, next to him is not Roy McCoy
but his brother. Second from end seated, I think is Tommy Murray and
next is James Weathered. Front row standing first is Marilyn Tucker,
then Cynthia Duncan and Mary
Inmon, #8 I believe is Gaynell Grundy and second from end is Kenneth
Mitchell
(?) not sure about the last name. Next row standing, counting the
teacher, #7 I believe is Judy Ellis and #11 is Dickie Barrett (a real
guess). Back row #4 is Delma or Zelma Franklin, then Estelle
Lunsford and #10 is
Martha Shoemaker. I assume no responsibility if all of these are
wrong.

Jesse Ring says that he thinks 5th from the left in second row is
Nadine
Slater.

NOTE: This was originally named: A 7th grade home room.
Jesse Ring sent me the following.

Luther, It's hot again so instead of fishing I am looking at the web
site and all of a sudden I realized two things. First that I am two
years older than most of you. Second that the picture John sent in of
the seventh grade home room is not a seventh grade picture because Lynn
McCoy and Wade Brown and also Mary Inmon were in Mrs. Casey's home
room. Which I was also. We need to look again at that picture.

I am the one that said it was a 7th grade home room. All it had
on it was the date of May 16, 1952 so I assumed a 7th grade home room
After looking at the picture the one thing that finally caught my eye
is that there are 49 kids in this picture. The 7th grade home rooms of
Mrs. Hood and Mrs. Casey have about 35 kids and as hard up as the
school district was from time to time, I don't think they would put 49
kids in one class. Besides the names Jesse mentioned, I see other
duplicates.

The photo I think is of the choir. That year we had the dust
storm. I will never forget just how bad it got. Looking forward to
seeing everone

In the May, 1952 we were in 7th grade. Mrs. Boyle, a
rather pretty woman with a nice figure, (fits the pictured teacher)
taught music. I was Not in
7th grade choir and I am Not in the picture. I also noted
too many kids for a homeroom. Choir sounds like a good
guess.

The first boy on the first row is Clarence Townsend
