Hi to All: It has been so much fun reading you biographies and seeing pictures of you. It is so hard to believe that 50 years have gone bye and everyone still looks so great !!! Life has really been good to me. I married Truett Newell whom I met in college. We have been married for 47 years. We have two sons. Mike is an attorney and has two children and Ed is with Pfizer Pharmaceutical and has two children. That makes me the proud Nanah of 4 wonderful grandchildren. We have lived in Hobbs, New Mexico, for 35 years. It has been a wonderful place to call home with many wonderful friends and memories. At 48 years old ,I decided to return to college to get my masters degree. There were a lot of cob webs to scrape away so any knowledge could be retained. After receiving my masters I became an elementary school principal where my school was named a Blue Ribbon School of New Mexico. Because of this wonderful recognition, I was awarded numerous awards , but truly it was the amazing people that surrounded me that made me look good. I later became the Assistant Superintendent of the Hobbs Schools and served in that role for 7 years until I retired 5 years ago. Since my retirement I have turned my attention to other endeavors. I love to play bridge, mahjongg and tennis. I serve on several Boards. One is the symphony because of all they do for the children in the Hobbs Schools and I am a Trustee for College of the Southwest . Speaking of College of the Southwest--We have our big annual meeting on the same weekend as the reunion. I am in charge of the education committee and feel I need to be here for that. I am so torn because I really want to be there too seeing all of you.. I have such fond memories of my high school days at PHS and each of you. Sometimes when I reflect on my past, I think of all the people that that have been in my life and have made the what I am today. I am so grateful and I thank God everyday for my wonderful 68 years on this earth. Thank you, Luther, for your work on this reunion. It has been so much fun reading the stories. I really appreciate your hard work. If I do not get to come to the reunion, do know you will be in my thoughts. If you are ever near Hobbs, please look us up. It would be so much fun to see you!!!! I would have enclosed a picture, but not being too computer savvy, and not having anyone here at the moment, I was not capable of doing so. Maybe, when I have a computer whiz here, I will get them to help me. Have a great time on September 28-29 if I am not there!!!! Sandra (Walsh) Newell |
