CAROLYN LANE LEWIS
After graduation from high school, I married Bill Lewis from
Stinnett August 29, 1957, and moved to Amarillo, where we lived for 7
years. We had two daughters during that time, Cindy in 1960, and
Brenda in 1963.
We moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1964, and after that Bill's
job took us to Birmingham, AL; Fort Lauderdale, FL;, West Haverstraw,
NY, and finally to Del City, OK, where we lived for 9 years while our
daughters finished school.
The girls went off to college, jobs, and marriage so we were
empty nesters. After vacationing in Tennessee in 1986, we decided
that was where we wanted to live. I was a federal civil service
employee and when a job vacancy for a similar job came up in
Murfreesboro, TN, we jumped at the chance to go there. Bill's job
allowed him to work from anywhere. We loved living there for 9
years until I retired in January 1997 after completing 30 years of
federal service, mostly with the Department of Defense and later with
the Department of Veterans Affairs. Our oldest daughter who has a
congenital heart problem, was having some problems; and my
mother-in-law was getting older and in bad health, so in 1997 we
decided to move closer to family and came to Fort Worth where our
daughters and three grandchildren were. We have been here ever
since.
I got bored with retirement since Bill was still working and
found a job working from home part-time for IBM as a program analyst
from 1998 to 2005. Now that we are both really retired, we
have enjoyed traveling and spending time with our family. It
seems I stay busier since I retired than ever before. I like all
kinds of crafts and do a little painting. This past year, I have
been tracing both of our family trees. That has been fun and we
have taken several trips to where some of our ancestors lived.
Next year we plan to go to Wales where we both have family ties.
Our lives have truly been blessed during the past 50 years
!! We count our blessings every day.
We are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with a trip
to Hawaii the latter part of September so I will not be able to attend
the reunion. I know it will be a lot of fun and hope everyone has
a great time!!
