2007
I met the man of my dreams at the wedding of his sister to my brother on June 1, 1957, in Archer City, Texas.  I had been accepted to twirl with the Cowboy Band at Hardin Simmons University but my plans changed after I met Hugh (Sonny) Sullivan and I enrolled at NTSC in Denton where he was a senior.  We were married November 28, 1957, in Pampa and then he graduated in May of 1958.  I took a full class load that year but had to quit when I got the Asiatic flu and a heart murmur developed.  The heart murmur healed in time and we had a wonderful life of highs and lows which is what a coach's life consists of.  He coached football and track at Springlake, TX, Hereford, TX, Brownwood, TX and then we came to Belton in 1976 where he coached football and track and was Athletic Director until 1998.  We both retired from the school business that year.  I had been the high school principal's secretary for 23 years.  Along the way we had three wonderful children, two boys and 1 girl and we have 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.  All our family live in Belton and we are very close and love to take trips together.  Christ has always been the center of my life and he has blessed me beyond measure.  I am a 40 year member of the First Baptist Church choir here in Belton, a member of a ladies trio, a member of the hand bell choir and a prayer warrior.  I also taught 14 year old girls in Sunday School for many years.  Sonny and I are members of Campers On Mission and have done quit a bit of volunteer work through the church. I attended Temple Jr. College sometime in the 80's and was able to brush up on my passion which is writing.  I have written poetry all my life and have had a few published.  I received the editor's award for a poem I wrote about my husband.  I have written short stories but dream about writing a novel if and when I ever have time.  Sonny and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in November.  I would love to see everyone at the reunion but our precious daughter-in-law who is married to our youngest son is in the latter stages of brain cancer.  She has been fighting this since 2000.  She is 42 and they have three children so you can imagine how terribly hard this is on all of them and on all our family. It is only when you go through the trials of this life that you really experience the depth of God's love, mercy and grace.  We are blessed indeed.
