Fifty years sounds like such a long time, but it seems like such a short time since we were graduating from PHS! One only has to reflect on the "water that has gone under the bridge" , and glance in the mirror, to realize that it has been longer than it seems.
My job at Cabot Corporation kept me occupied for almost 24 years, but when they began moving all their offices out of Pampa, I decided to return to college and get my teaching degree. We moved to Amarillo in 1985. I graduated from WT in August, 1987, with a degree in elementary education and began a sixteen year tenure at Highland Park Elementary located at the old air base 20 miles east of Amarillo. I retired in 2004, but after two years, I began tutoring for the TAKS at Gene Howe Elementary. I get to be involved with the kids and the teachers for about four hours a day, three days a week from October through April. It also keeps me in the "loop" with all the changes in public education. It is gratifying to see kids that struggle finally catch on and become successful.
When I am not tutoring, I enjoy working with Robert in the yard, growing a few flowers and tomatoes, and working in the church. At the present time, I am on the landscape committee, a member of P.A.L.S and Helping Hands committees, which are outreach programs for the homebound members of our congregation. Our church has also partnered with two elementary schools in the neighborhood to provide school supplies and to support the teachers. We are working on a program to offer tutoring and help with homework after school.
Our daughter, Misty, and her husband Damon Harvey live here in Amarillo. We have two granddaughters, Kristen (23) and Kimberly (17), and a great grandson, Baylor, who is 4.
We love being able to attend the sports events the girls and Baylor are involved in. Kristen played volleyball and softball while she was in high school. She is now working and going to college at AC. Kimberly plays volleyball for the Rockets, who were the national champions for the past two years. Baylor plays soccor and T-ball. All are active in their church.
Robert and I celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary on August 31. We have been truly blessed with fifty years of happiness. We give God the glory.
We want to thank all that have worked so hard planning our reunion and putting it together. Luther you have done an outstanding job with the website. We appreciate you!
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.
